As 2024 draws to a close, we’re taking a look back on what we covered in Ireland’s address and location data landscape this year. Here’s a quick roundup of the key posts that have shaped our understanding in 2024.

The GeoDirectory Annual Customer Conference 2024 (May 2024) was a significant event, bringing together industry experts and customers to discuss the future of data. Keynote speakers covered topics such as urban digital twins and data spaces, offering valuable insights into the evolving data landscape

In February 2024, GeoDirectory reported that the National Commercial Vacancy Rate had reached a record high of 14.3%. This post analysed the factors contributing to this trend and its implications for the commercial property sector. The report underscored the challenges faced by the commercial property market and highlighted the need for innovative solutions

The GeoDirectory Residential Buildings Report Q2 2024 revealed that over 31,000 new residential address points were recorded in the twelve months to June 2024, representing a 17.1% increase year-on-year. The report also noted that 21,851 residential buildings were under construction, although this was a slight decrease from the previous year. The national residential vacancy rate remained steady at 3.9%, indicating a stable housing market. 

Similarly, the GeoDirectory Commercial Buildings Report Q2 2024 highlighted an increase in commercial vacancy rates, reaching a new high of 14.4% in June 2024. This report provided a detailed analysis of the commercial property market, identifying key trends and challenges. The highest commercial vacancy rates were found in the west of the country, with Sligo, Donegal, and Galway topping the list. 

The webinar on The Lifecycle of an An Post Address and Eircode provided an insightful presentation on the address lifecycle and Eircode assignment. This session covered the different types of addresses, data capture methods, and the process behind assigning Eircodes, offering valuable knowledge for managing address data effectively. 

Lastly, the webinar on Navigating Dataspaces: Blueprint, Processes, Applications, and Challenges delved into the foundational elements of dataspaces. This session explored the processes involved in creating and managing dataspaces, practical applications across various industries, and strategies to overcome common challenges.
