THE SSE AIRTRICITY LEAGUE IS BACK

This Friday most couples in this country will be frantically sorting out table bookings in a restaurant and/or bouquets from the florist as the reality of it being St. Valentine’s Day suddenly dawn on them.

However some couples will be swapping the candlelit four-course meal for a tray of curry chips and sausages as they opt to see their local football team in action, as the SSE Airtricty League kicks off on 14th February.

The supporters in all of the clubs are rather like little communities and you will be welcomed with open arms and make new friends in no time; should you decide to pop along to your nearest ground.

The fare on offer has increased immensely in quality as the players on show have much more tricks in their respective bags and we tend to see a lot more free-flowing, playing it across the deck system, which is a joy to watch. When Bohemians play Shamrock rovers and Finn Harps play Sligo Rovers the intensity on the pitch, if it could be captured, would heat quite a few houses!

As most if not all of ye reading this blog will know, Dundalk notched up yet another league championship trophy in October, massing an impressive 86 points with Shamrock Rovers a distant second on 75 points. Bohemian’s caused a bit of an upset when Keith Long’s side featuring  a lot of raw young talent finished in third place and in the process qualified for European Competition for the first time in over a decade.

Now that you have the perfect excuse to plan a weekend away, be it to Cork City to visit Turners Cross or Ballybofey to go to Finn Harps - to name but two stadia; with the quality on offer, be it on the football pitch or local restaurants, what more excuses do you need?

At most SSE Airtricity League grounds it only costs €15 for an adult and €5 for a child to attend a match.
