Case study: Allied Logistics
Allied Logistics uses GeoDirectory to keep track of its existing customers and potential new customers.
Based in Dublin, the company stores frozen food and supplies it to retail outlets across the island of Ireland.
Like other businesses, Allied Logistics needs clean, consistent, reliable data, presented in a standardised form. They discovered that GeoDirectory provides exactly what they need. In addition, the company has developed GeoDirectory into an effective analytical tool.
Mapping Ireland's food stores with GeoDirectory
Andrew Keegan, KPI analyst at Allied Logistics, explains that the company has 5,000 business customers on its database, each of them geocoded and mapped.
"We carried out this project by layering the entire GeoDirectory database on top of our own software. That then allowed us to create a map that visually pinpoints the exact locations of the 5,000 stores we supply.
"Although our own software allows us to view X,Y coordinates, the geocodes themselves were provided by the GeoDirectory database. There was no other way of getting this essential information."
Allied Logistics use the GeoDirectory-based map to conduct a regular in-depth analysis of their sales in each geographical locality they serve.
"Before acquiring the GeoDirectory database, we had to rely on studying lists of stores and numbers. But when it's all laid out in front of you on a map, you can instantly spot the geographical patterns, such as sales and other KPI's (Key Performance Indicators).
Targeting new customers with GeoDirectory
"This information also allows us to identify potential new customers in areas where we already have existing customers. We can then go to our sales team and say: 'Hey guys, there's an area where we have customers, but just around the corner we have another three or four potential customers who we're not yet serving'.
"We have 40 articulated refrigerated units on the road every day, but its not practically possible for our drivers to indentify and memorise that kind of information. We need GeoDirectory to tell us exactly which stores are where.
"And by targeting clusters of potential customers in areas where we already supply customers, that means we can plan and utilse our routes more efficently."
This project was completed using GeoBusiness Locator.
